Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 43

यथाकाशमयो वृत्तिर् घटाकाशे तथा ज्ञानम्

yathākāśamayo vṛttir ghaṭākāśe tathā jñānam

As space within a pot is a modification of space, so is knowledge

The ghaṭa-ākāśa analogy, repeated for emphasis: the jīva — individual consciousness — is not a fragment of Brahman but Brahman itself appearing limited. The jar does not create a new kind of space inside it; it creates the appearance of limitation. Break the jar and the space inside was never separate from the space outside. The jīva is Brahman seen through the narrowing of ignorance. Remove ignorance and the jīva was never a separate entity.
