Prakaraṇa 2 · Verse 17
एकमात्रम् भवेत् वस्तु द्वयमात्रम् तु भावतः
ekamātram bhavet vastu dvayamātram tu bhāvataḥ
In reality there is only one thing; duality arises from appearance
Duality is not an illusion that covers unity; it is the way unity appears when viewed through the lens of identification. The coin has two faces but is one coin. The appearance of duality is not false — it is incomplete. When you see only heads, you miss tails; when you see both, you miss the coin. When you see the coin, heads and tails are understood as aspects, not opposites. Non-duality is not the negation of duality; it is the context that makes duality intelligible.
