Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 66

तयोः प्राप्तो च सर्वत्र चित्तस्य स्थापनं धृतिः । अष्टौ ग्रासा मुनेर्भक्ष्याः षोडशारण्यवासिनम् ॥

tayoḥ prāpto ca sarvatra cittasya sthāpanaṃ dhṛtiḥ | aṣṭau grāsā munerbhakṣyāḥ ṣoḍaśāraṇyavāsinam ||

Dhṛti — steadfastness — is the stabilization of the mind (cittasya sthāpanam) achieved through both kṣamā and the practices leading to it. The verse then provides specific dietary guidelines: a muni (sage) should eat eight mouthfuls (aṣṭau grāsā), a forest-dweller sixteen. These quantities reflect progressive austerity as one advances in spiritual practice, with food becoming more minimal as inner nourishment grows.
