Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 67

द्वात्रिंशच्च गृहस्थानां यथेष्टं ब्रह्मचारिणाम् । एषामयं मिताहारो ह्यन्येषामल्पभोजनम् ॥

dvātriṃśacca gṛhasthānāṃ yatheṣṭaṃ brahmacāriṇām | eṣāmayaṃ mitāhāro hyanyeṣāmalpabhojanam ||

Dietary guidelines continue: a householder (gṛhastha) may eat thirty-two mouthfuls, a brahmacārin as desired (yatheṣṭam). For the first three, this is mitāhāra — measured eating. For others (renunciates), it becomes alpabhojana — reduced eating. The progression from thirty-two to eight mouthfuls maps the āśrama trajectory from generous worldly life to extreme renunciation, with diet as a concrete measure of inner detachment.
