Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 65
क्षमा सैवेति विद्वद्भिर्गदिता वेदवादिभिः । अर्थहानौ च बन्धूनां वियोगेष्वपि सम्पदाम् ॥
kṣamā saiveti vidvadbhirgaditā vedavādibhiḥ | arthahānau ca bandhūnāṃ viyogeṣvapi sampadām ||
Kṣamā — forbearance — is defined by the Vedists as the capacity to endure loss of wealth (arthahāna), separation from loved ones (bandhūnāṃ viyoga), and loss of prosperity (sampadām). This is not passive resignation but active endurance: the ability to maintain equanimity when external circumstances are painful. The tradition considers this endurance a mark of spiritual maturity.
