Ṣaṣṭha-prakaraṇam (Pratyāhāra) · Verse 6
अनाहतं च विन्दूं च षट्चक्रं ध्यायतः सदा । धारणायां स्थितं चित्तं योगिनो मुक्तिदं भवेत् ॥
anāhataṃ ca vindūṃ ca ṣaṭcakraṃ dhyāyataḥ sadā | dhāraṇāyāṃ sthitaṃ cittaṃ yogino muktidaṃ bhavet ||
Prakaraṇa VI, verse 6 presents a crucial stage in the yogic process, outlining the conditions necessary for liberation. The focus on anahata (the heart center), bindu (the seed of potential), and the six cakras – specifically those situated within the subtle body – indicates a sophisticated understanding of energetic concentrations. Constant meditation within these locations, marked by dhāraṇā – a sustained fixing of the citta (mind) – acts as the primary mechanism for liberation. This isn’t simply mental concentration, but a directed channeling of prāṇa towards these specific points, a technique designed to dismantle the barriers of identification that bind the ātman to the fluctuations of prakṛti. The established chitta, rooted in dhāraṇā, effectively becomes a stable platform from which the yogī can observe the ceaseless flow of thoughts and emotions without being swept away, ultimately leading to moksha – release. The precision of this verse echoes the Upaniṣadic emphasis on directed awareness as the key to transcending illusion.
