Chapter 3 · Verse 3

निर्ममो निरहंकारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी

nirmamo nirahaṃkāraḥ sama-duḥkha-sukhaḥ kṣamī

A catalogue of the sage’s qualities: free from possessiveness (nirmama), free from egoism (nirahaṃkāra), equanimous in pain and pleasure (sama-duḥkha-sukha), forbearing (kṣamī), content with whatever comes (yadṛcchā-lābha-santuṣṭa), free from activity (niṣkriya), and desireless (nirāśā). For such a one, the oscillation between joy and sorrow ceases because the one who would experience these alternations — the ego — has been recognized as unreal.
