Kṣetra-Kṣetrajña Yoga · Verse 3

क्षेत्रज्ञं चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत | क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोर्ज्ञानं यत्तज्ज्ञानं मतं मम

kṣetra-jñaṃ cāpi māṃ viddhi sarva-kṣetreṣu bhārata | kṣetra-kṣetra-jñayor jñānaṃ yat tad jñānaṃ mataṃ mama

And know also that I am the knower of the field in all fields, O Bhārata!. The knowledge of the field and the knower of the field, that is considered by Me as true knowledge.

Kṛṣṇa reveals His identity as the supreme kṣetra-jña — the consciousness that knows all fields, not merely an individual soul but the universal witness.

This distinction between individual and universal knower is crucial. Each embodied being (jīva) has its own kṣetra-jña, but behind all individual consciousness shines the Supreme Self.

True jñāna is not intellectual accumulation but direct recognition of this distinction between field and knower. This knowledge liberates from identification with the body.
