Far inferior is karma to the yoga of wisdom, oh Dhanañjaya. Seek refuge in wisdom; miserable are those motivated by the fruit

Fruit-motivated karma is avaram (inferior), dūreṇa (far from) buddhi-yoga (union with wisdom). It is not prohibited but superseded.

The imperative anviccha (seek, pursue) śaraṇam buddhau (refuge in wisdom). Jñāna-yoga is the goal.

Kṛpaṇāḥ (miserable, meager) are phala-hetavaḥ (those of motive = fruit). They work for reward, not for action itself as divine offering.
