Karma Yoga · Verse 14

अन्नाद्भवन्ति भूतानि पर्जन्यादन्नसम्भवः | यज्ञाद्भवति पर्जन्यो यज्ञः कर्मसमुद्भवः

annād bhavanti bhūtāni parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ | yajñād bhavati parjanyo yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ

From food beings arise, from rain arises food, from sacrifice arises rain, from action arises sacrifice.

The cosmic cycle of interdependence is traced. Annād — from food — all bhūtāni (living beings) exist. Parjanya — the fertilizing rain — depends on sacrifice.

The chain is: sacrifice → rain → food → life → action → sacrifice. Breaking any link collapses the system. Karma-samudbhavaḥ — “action gives rise to sacrifice” — closes the cycle: life itself, lived as sacrifice, sustains the cosmic order.
