हस्ताभ्यां धारयित्वा तु पादयोरग्रतः स्थितौ | नासाग्रे च धृतेक्षणः क्षुद्ररोगविनाशनम् ||
hastābhyāṃ dhārayitvā tu pādayor agrataḥ sthitau | nāsāgre ca dhṛtekṣaṇaḥ kṣudrarogavināśanam ||
The complete execution of Paścimottānāsana: grasping the feet, gaze at the tip of the nose. The forward fold is done from the hips, not from the waist.
“Destroyer of minor diseases” (kṣudra-roga-vināśanam). “Minor diseases” include headaches, indigestion, insomnia, mild anxiety. This posture is general preventive medicine.
The gaze at the tip of the nose maintains inner attention during the fold. It is not about reaching further physically but maintaining presence with each breath.
