Translation

Description of the Svādhiṣṭhāna cakra: the second lotus, situated at the root of the liṅga, is the great light kept secret in all the Tantras.

Commentary

The Svādhiṣṭhāna is situated «at the root of the liṅga», a location that reveals its nature as center of creative and generative force. Calling it «the great light secret in all Tantras» elevates this cakra description to the level of a central mystery: not merely a step on the scale, but a secret the Tantras have kept with special care.

Sva means «own» or «one’s own», adhiṣṭhāna «abode» or «seat» (adhi = above, sthāna = place), making Svādhiṣṭhāna literally «the abode of the self». Saroja is the lotus (sa = with, roja = red color), liṅga-mūla the base of the liṅga. Parama-prakāśa is the supreme light, the primordial radiance.

The Svādhiṣṭhāna’s location varies between texts: the Śiva-saṃhitā situates it «at the root of the liṅga», while the Haṭhayogapradīpikā describes it in the sacral region. This difference reflects subtle body mapping traditions emphasizing distinct aspects: the former underscores the energetic-sexual dimension, the latter the anatomical one. Both perspectives point to the same center of creative energy.
