Mantra Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 21

प्रणवादिसमुच्चारात्प्लुतान्ते शून्यभावनात् । शून्यया परया शक्त्या शून्यतामेति भैरवि ॥

praṇavādisamuccārāt plutānte śūnyabhāvanāt | śūnyayā parayā śaktyā śūnyatām eti bhairavi ||

By the pronunciation of the praṇava (Oṃ) and others, at the end of the prolongation, by contemplation of the void — by the supreme śakti of the void, voidness is attained, oh Bhairavī.

Twenty-first technique. Complements the eighteenth. Praṇavādi — beginning with the praṇava (Oṃ) and other mantras. Samuccārāt — by pronunciation aloud. Plutānte — at the end of the prolongation. Pluta is the longest extension of a vowel — three counts (mātrā). At the end of that maximum sound extension.

Śūnyabhāvanāt — by contemplation of the void that follows. The moment where the prolonged sound finally extinguishes. That moment is not simply silence. It is śūnya — active void, pregnant with potentiality.

Śūnyayā parayā śaktyā — by the supreme śakti of the void. The void is not inertia. It is the purest form of energy. Śūnyatām eti — voidness is attained. Not as absence. As absolute fullness stripped of particular content.
