Dhyāna Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 101
वह्नेर्विषस्य मध्ये तु चित्तं सुखमयं क्षिपेत् । केवलं वायुपूर्णं वा स्मरानन्देन युज्यते ॥
vahner viṣasya madhye tu cittaṃ sukhamayaṃ kṣipet | kevalaṃ vāyupūrṇaṃ vā smarānandena yujyate ||
Throw the happiness-made mind into the midst of fire or poison. Or else, filled only with air, one is united with the beatitude of memory.
Hundred-first dhāraṇā. Fire and poison as vehicles. Vahneḥ viṣasya madhye — in the midst of fire or poison. Metaphors of extreme intensity. Situations where the ordinary mind panics. Bhairava says: cast the blissful mind there.
Cittaṃ sukhamayaṃ kṣipet — cast the mind made of happiness. Not the frightened mind. Not the mind that flees. The mind that is bliss. If your mind is sukha, what can fire burn? What can poison poison?
Kevalaṃ vāyupūrṇaṃ vā smarānandena yujyate — or else, filled only with air — that is, intense prāṇāyāma, the body vibrating with prāṇa — one is united with beatitude of memory. Smarānanda — the bliss of remembering the real. When you have once tasted supreme beatitude, its memory has transformative power. It can turn fire into coolness.
