Chapter 13 opens with Janaka praising the extraordinary happiness of the realized being, and verse 6 gives the ontological ground for that happiness. The Self is sat-cid-ānanda — existence, consciousness, and bliss — and it is nirvikalpa, free from conceptual constructions. Because it is sadā śiva, always auspicious and unchanging, happiness is not a transient mood but the very nature of awareness. This verse shifts the quest for joy from external circumstances to the recognition of one’s own unconditioned nature.
