Chapter 13 · Verse 5
न मे दुःखं न मे सुखं न मे बन्धो न मे मुक्तिः
na me duḥkhaṃ na me sukhaṃ na me bandho na me muktiḥ
There is no distress for me, no pleasure, no bondage, no release. I am pure Consciousness, the witness (sākṣī) of all. What more is there to say? In Chapter 13 this same declaration takes on the specific flavor of the sage’s happiness. The happiness of the jñānin is not the absence of pain nor the presence of pleasure — it is the transcendence of both. The witness neither suffers nor enjoys; it watches pain and pleasure without entering either one.
