Chapter 18 · Verse 86

पततूदेतु वा देहो नास्य चिन्ता महात्मनः

patatūdetu vā deho nāsya cintā mahātmanaḥ | svabhāvabhūmiviśrāntivismṛtāśeṣasaṃs

In chapter 18 (Janaka’s liberation), verse 86 deepens the teaching of non-duality. The ātman is pure consciousness that remains immune to all appearance. In Advaita Vedānta philosophy, this verse of the Aṣṭāvakra Gītā reveals that freedom is inherent to the Self and requires no acquisition.
