नियतं सङ्गरहितमरागद्वेषतः कृतम् | अफलप्रेप्सुना कर्म यत्तत्सात्त्विकमुच्यते
niyataṃ saṅga-rahitam arāga-dveṣataḥ kṛtam | aphala-prepsunā karma yat tat sāttvikam ucyate
The prescribed action, free from attachment, done without love or hatred, by one who does not desire fruit — that is called sāttvic.
Sāttvic action: niyatam — prescribed, duty, not arbitrary. Saṅga-rahitam — free from attachment. Arāga-dveṣataḥ — without rāga (attraction) and dveṣa (aversion).
Aphala-prepsunā — by one who does not desire (prepsu) fruit (aphala). Attitude of pure karma-yoga — action as duty, with equanimity.
