Vijñāna Yoga · Verse 20

कामैस्तैस्तैर्हृतज्ञानाः प्रपद्यन्तेऽन्यदेवताः | तं तं नियममास्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया

kāmais tair hṛta-jñānāḥ prapadyante 'nya-devatāḥ | taṃ taṃ niyamam āsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā

Those whose knowledge has been stolen by desire surrender to other deities, following various rituals, impelled by their own nature.

Others prapadyante: hṛta-jñānāḥ (knowledge carried away by kāma — desire). They worship anya-devatāḥ (other deities), following niyama (specific rules of each cult).

Motivation: impelled (niyatāḥ) by sva-prakṛti (their own nature, predominance of certain guṇa). It is not bad per se, but it is inferior — they seek worldly results through demigods.
