काम
Kāma
conceptoDesire, longing, pleasure. One of the ṣaḍripu (six enemies) and the third puruṣārtha (aim of human life). Kāmadeva is the god of desire. In the Bhagavad-gītā: kāmāt krodhād bhavati — from desire arises anger (BG 2.62). Yet kāma is not inherently destructive; it is the unchecked momentum of desire that binds. Classical yoga does not suppress kama but integrates it under the gaze of the witness, redirecting its energy toward liberation. See raga, krodha.
