Jñāna Yoga · Verse 19
यस्य सर्वे समारम्भाः कामसङ्कल्पवर्जिताः | ज्ञानाग्निदग्धकर्माणं तमाहुः पण्डितं बुधाः
yasya sarve samārambhāḥ kāma-saṅkalpa-varjitāḥ | jñānāgni-dagdha-karmāṇaṃ tam āhuḥ paṇḍitaṃ budhāḥ
Whosever undertakings are free from desire and purpose, whose actions are burned by the fire of knowledge, him the wise call wise.
Definition of the true sage. Samārambhāḥ — undertakings, initiatives — are kāma-saṅkalpa-varjitāḥ — free from desire and purpose.
Jñānāgni-dagdha-karmāṇam — whose actions are burned by the fire of knowledge — indicates that the karmic residue is destroyed. The budhāḥ — illuminated — call paṇḍitam — learned, wise — one who has transformed action into yoga through discernment.
