वीतरागभयक्रोधा मन्मया मामुपाश्रिताः | बहवो ज्ञानतपसा पूता मद्भावमागताः
vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhā man-mayā mām upāśritāḥ | bahavo jñāna-tapasā pūtā mad-bhāvam āgatāḥ
Freed from desire, fear and anger, absorbed in me, taking refuge in me, many, purified by the fire of knowledge, have attained to my being.
Characteristics of those who attain union. Vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhāḥ — free from desire, fear, anger — indicates total emotional purification.
Man-mayāḥ — absorbed in me — and upāśritāḥ — taking refuge in me — describe complete devotion. Jñāna-tapas — austerity of knowledge — is the process: rigorous discernment as purifying fire. Mad-bhāvam āgatāḥ — attained to my being — is union, not mere proximity.
