Yassaṃ disāyaṃ samayo, cittavūpasamāya ca; dhammānaṃ pavicayā yā, vīriyā ca phāsuvihārā ca.
Yassaṃ disāyaṃ samayo, cittavūpasamāya ca; dhammānaṃ pavicayā yā, vīriyā ca phāsuvihārā ca.
In whatever direction one finds satisfaction, mental calm, investigation of dhammas, energy and comfortable dwelling.
This verse lists five factors of spiritual progress that can be found in any direction (disā). External geography is irrelevant — what matters is internal disposition.
Samayo — satisfaction, agreement, what is suitable. The right circumstance for awakening is not a place but an internal consonance.
Cittavūpasamāya — calm of the heart (citta + vūpasama). The first fruit of correct practice is mental tranquility.
Dhammānaṃ pavicayā — investigation (pavicaya) of dhammas. Not dogmatic acceptance but direct scrutiny of experience.
Vīriyā — energy, diligent effort. Without virya there is no transformation.
Phāsuvihārā — comfortable dwelling (phāsu + vihāra). The practitioner finds their natural habitat in this non-possessiveness.
