Bhikkhuvagga · The Monk · Gāthā 363

Saññojanaṃ pasantānaṃ, bhavānaṃ pahāyati; Bhikkhu pubbāparaṃ hitvā, majjhe ca na virajati.

Saññojanaṃ pasantānaṃ, bhavānaṃ pahāyati; bhikkhu pubbāparaṃ hitvā, majjhe ca na virajati.

The bonds of the pacified are abandoned, becomings are left; the monk having left behind and ahead, in the middle does not cling.

Pubbāparaṃ — past and future. The monk does not live in what was, does not live in what will be. The present (majjhe) is the only real time.

Na virajati — does not cling, does not stain. Presence in the middle is not attachment to the present, it is floating without anchor in the now.
