Pañcamopadeśaḥ (Prāṇāyāma) · Verse 13
बहिर्निष्ठं जिह्वाग्रं तु दन्तानुपरि धारयेत् | ततो द्रुतं वायुमादाय पूरयेदुदरं शनैः ||
bahirniṣṭhaṃ jihvāgraṃ tu dantān upari dhārayet | tato drutaṃ vāyum ādāya pūrayed udaraṃ śanaiḥ ||
Technique of Sītkārī: tongue between the teeth (or against them), inhaling with a hissing sound, then exhaling normally through the nose.
The air passing over the moist tongue is cooled. This prāṇāyāma refreshes the body and calms the mind.
It is especially useful in hot climates, during fever, or when there is excess solar energy (irritability, acidity, inflammation).
