The debate here shifts to the āśrama framework: the gṛhastha (householder) stage versus other forms of religious life. That persons described as vicakṣaṇāḥ—«perspicacious», «of sharp vision»—champion the domestic life as supreme reflects the gṛhasthāśrama-dharma current, which in texts like the Manusmṛti holds a preeminent position.
Gṛhastha derives from gṛha (house) and stha (one who remains), designating the person who sustains social order through marriage, procreation, and maintenance of the sacrificial fire. Vicakṣaṇa comes from vi- plus cakṣ (to see clearly); its use here carries irony—even the «clear-sighted» disagree with one another.
The mention of the sacrificial fire (agni) as counterpoint to the householder evokes the tension between Pūrvamīmāṃsā, which privileges Vedic ritual, and more internalized currents of practice. The text records this pluralism without yet resolving it, preparing the reader for the non-dual solution the Śivasaṃhitā will propose.
