Śivasaṃhitā 5.144

The text places knowledge of the brahmarandhra beyond the reach of even Brahmā — «the Four-faced» — and the assembled gods. This rhetorical elevation is not mere flattery of the yogic path; it positions direct experiential knowledge of the supreme cranial centre as surpassing any cosmic or theological privilege, making the yogi’s inner attainment categorically superior to divine status.

The compound brahmarandhra — «the aperture of Brahman» — refers in subtle anatomy to the fontanelle region, the point through which prāṇa is said to exit at death and through which the accomplished yogi directs consciousness toward liberation. Its pairing here with the «Moon of Mystery» (rahasya-candra) links it to the internal soma tradition, the nectar of immortality believed to drip from this lunar centre.

The command to keep this teaching secret (mahāguhya) is a hallmark of tantric pedagogy. Esoteric knowledge was transmitted selectively not out of arbitrary exclusivity but because premature or decontextualized exposure to such practices was considered genuinely dangerous. This verse thus marks a threshold within the chapter, signalling that what follows belongs to the innermost circle of yogic transmission.
