Pañcamaḥ paṭalaḥ (Dhyāna) · Verse 165

इडा गङ्गा पुरा प्रोक्ता पिङ्गला चार्कपुत्रिका ।

iḍā gaṅgā purā proktā piṅgalā cārkaputrikā |

By seeing it one never returns to the path of this mortal universe; let the Yogi, therefore, practice this with great care by the path of the Swadhisthan.

This verse establishes a sacred correspondence between the subtle channels and India’s most revered rivers. Iḍā, the left lunar channel, is identified with the Ganges, holiest of rivers. Piṅgalā, the right solar channel, is equated with Yamunā, daughter of the sun god Sūrya. This mapping is not decorative: it invites the practitioner to locate the entire sacred geography of India within the body itself.
