Śiva indicates that the yoni described earlier—the primordial generative principle—has its supreme dwelling in the sahasrāra. This creates a vertical axis in the subtle body: the yoni of the mūlādhāra is the material source, that of the sahasrāra is the spiritual source. Kuṇḍalinī travels between both, converting the densest energy into subtler light.
Purā means previously or before (pura = in front, before), yoni the source, womb or generative principle, sahasrāra the thousand-spoked lotus (sahasra = thousand, āra = wheel spoke), saroruha the water-born lotus (saras = lake/pond, ruha = that which grows). The warning about vigilance against the return of ignorance is essential.
The warning that the yogi must continuously maintain practice «so that ignorance does not rise again» is one of the Śiva-saṃhitā’s most honest aspects. Jñāna is not an automatically permanent achievement: it requires vigilance (sāvadhānatā). This honesty distinguishes the text from superficial promises and connects it with traditions that acknowledge the possibility of falling back even for advanced practitioners.
