Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 26
प्राणायामेन योगेन ध्यानेन च विचन्वता
prāṇāyāmena yogena dhyānena ca vicanvatā
By prāṇāyāma, by yoga, by dhyāna — investigate diligently
Vasiṣṭha does not reject practice — he integrates it into a broader framework. Prāṇāyāma calms the body, dhyāna stabilizes attention, yoga unifies. But they are means, not ends. Liberation is not achieved by accumulating practice; it is recognized when practice has refined the instrument enough for vision to become possible. The telescope does not create the stars; it makes them visible.
