Chapter 10 · Verse 4

आत्मैवेदं जगत् सर्वं ज्ञातं यस्य महात्मनः

ātmaivedaṃ jagat sarvaṃ jñātaṃ yasya mahātmanaḥ

This entire universe is the Ātman for the great being who knows it. In Chapter 10, whose theme is the renunciation of all, including renunciation itself, this declaration is the final word against any attempt to “leave something behind.” What can be renounced when all is Ātman? The most radical renunciation is to recognize that one never possessed anything to renounce and was never the owner of anything at all.
