Chapter 12 · Verse 8
एको द्रष्टा त्वमात्मा चिद्रूपो नान्यदस्ति ते
eko draṣṭā tvamātmā cid-rūpo nānyad asti te
You are the only witness, the Ātman of the nature of Consciousness. There is nothing other than you. All that seems to exist is only a reflection within you, as in a mirror. In Chapter 12 Janaka speaks from certainty. The mirror metaphor deepens: it is no longer that “reflections do not affect me,” but that there was never a mirror separate from the reflections. Consciousness and its contents are not two — they are the only one there is.
