Chapter 19 · Verse 3
आत्मा निर्विकल्पः शुद्धः सच्चिदानन्दलक्षणः
ātmā nirvikalpaḥ śuddhaḥ sat-cid-ānanda-lakṣaṇaḥ
The Ātman is described as nirvikalpa, śuddha, and sat-cid-ānanda — free from conceptual constructions, pure, and of the nature of existence, consciousness, and bliss. In chapter 19, the final movement of the text, this is no longer a description to be contemplated but the simple, unattended fact of being. The sage is free from fear and desire not because he has conquered them but because their conditions have disappeared in the recognition of the Self.
