Chapter 19 · Verse 4

अहं ब्रह्म निराकारं सच्चिदानन्दलक्षणम्

ahaṃ brahma nirākāraṃ sat-cid-ānanda-lakṣaṇam

Janaka’s final proclamation in chapter 19 is “I am Brahman,” now spoken not as emphasis but as rest. The chapter dwells in the full measure of the Ātman, and this affirmation is uttered with the naturalness of stating the obvious. The difference between its first occurrence in chapter 12 and its final occurrence here is like the difference between lighting a candle and living in the sunlight that was always present. The teaching has come home.
