कच्चिन्नोभयविभ्रष्टश्च्छिन्नाभ्रमिव नश्यति | अप्रतिष्ठो महाबाहो विमूढो ब्रह्मणः पथि
kaccin nobhaya-vibhraṣṭaś chinna-abram iva naśyati | apratiṣṭho mahā-bāho vimūḍho brahmaṇaḥ pathi
Does he not perish, fallen from both worlds, like a scattered cloud, without support, deluded, on the path of Brahman, oh mighty-armed one!?
Arjuna’s fear: ubhaya-vibhraṣṭaḥ — fallen from both. Failed in pravṛtti (worldly active life) and in nivṛtti (renunciation/spirituality). Like chinna-abhra (broken cloud), dissipates without a trace.
Apratiṣṭha (without foundation, without support), vimūḍha (deluded) — a fearsome fate for one who ventures onto the brahma-patha (path of Brahman) but does not complete the journey.
