Ātma-Saṃyama Yoga · Verse 37
अयतिः श्रद्धयोपेतो योगाच्चलितमानसः | अप्राप्य योगसंसिद्धिं कां गतिं कृष्ण गच्छति
ayatiḥ śraddhayopeto yogāc calita-mānasaḥ | aprāpya yoga-saṃsiddhiṃ kāṃ gatiṃ kṛṣṇa gacchati
One who possesses faith but is not strict, whose mind departs from yoga before attaining perfection — to what destination do they go, oh Kṛṣṇa!?
Arjuna poses an existential question: what if I fail? Ayatiḥ — not strict in practice, though having śraddhā (faith/confidence). Calita-mānasaḥ — mind that departed, deviated.
Without achieving yoga-saṃsiddhi (perfection of yoga), what is their gati (destination, course)? Is all effort lost?
