Jñāna Yoga · Verse 39
श्रद्धावाँल्लभते ज्ञानं तत्परः संयतेन्द्रियः | ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा परां शान्तिमचिरेणाधिगच्छति
śraddhāvān labhate jñānaṃ tat-paraḥ saṃyatendriyaḥ | jñānaṃ labdhvā parāṃ śāntim acireṇādhigacchati
Full of faith, devoted to that, with senses controlled, one obtains knowledge; and having obtained knowledge, quickly attains supreme peace.
Conditions for knowledge. Śraddhāvān — endowed with faith — is the first requirement: trust in the teacher and teaching.
Tat-paraḥ — devoted to that — is the second requirement: absolute priority. Saṃyatendriyaḥ — senses controlled — is the third requirement: capacity for sustained attention. The result: jñānaṃ labdhvā — having obtained knowledge — produces parāṃ śāntim — supreme peace — acireṇa — without delay, quickly. Faith and practice precede realization.
