To him he replied: You are asking very difficult questions; you are one extremely devoted to Brahman. Therefore I shall tell you.

Pippalāda praises the depth of the questions. They are ati-praśnān — extremely difficult questions, that go beyond superficial curiosity. Only one truly devoted to Brahman formulates such inquiries.

Brahmiṣṭha — one who is firmly established in Brahman. This is the requirement for receiving profound knowledge: internal preparation, not merely intellectual capacity.

The teacher recognizes in Kauśalya the necessary disposition. Therefore he accepts to answer — tasmāt te ahaṃ bravīmi — “therefore I shall tell you.” The transmission of Upaniṣadic knowledge requires both a teacher willing to teach and a student prepared to receive.

For the yogī, this means that before seeking profound knowledge about prāṇa, we must cultivate dedication to Brahman. The practice of prāṇāyāma without this spiritual orientation is merely physical exercise. With the correct orientation, it becomes the path to Self-realization.
