Manas

Sensory mind, the faculty that coordinates the senses and processes impressions. Unlike buddhi (intellect), manas doesn’t discriminate or decide — it gathers, organizes, and presents data.

In tradition, manas is the “inner sense” that converts perceptions into coherent experience. It can be scattered (outward with the senses) or gathered (inward in meditation).

Haṭha Yoga works with manas indirectly: regulating prana calms the senses, and calmed senses quiet manas. This is why it’s said that where prana goes, mind follows.
