मनसा चित्तमालम्ब्य विश्वं दग्ध्वा शनैः शनैः । सवितृत्वे महागोचरे ज्ञानज्ञेयी भवेत्पुमान् ॥
manasā cittam ālambya viśvaṃ dagdhvā śanaiḥ śanaiḥ | savitṛtve mahāgocare jñānajñeyī bhavet pumān ||
Taking mind as the support of consciousness, burning the universe little by little — in the state of the sun, in the vast field, the person becomes both knower and known.
Fifty-sixth technique. Manasā cittam ālambya — using mind as the support of consciousness. The mind observes itself. It takes itself as object of contemplation. Viśvaṃ dagdhvā śanaiḥ śanaiḥ — burning the universe little by little.
The gradual dissolution of all mental content. First distant objects disappear. Then near ones. Then bodily sensations. Then thoughts. Gradually. Without violence. Śanaiḥ śanaiḥ — gently.
Savitṛtve — in the state of sun, of luminosity. When all content has dissolved, consciousness shines like sun without clouds. Jñānajñeyī bhavet — one becomes knower and known simultaneously. The subject-object duality vanishes. Only the pure act of knowing remains.
