Chapter 3 · Verse 12

आत्मा केवलसिद्धोऽसि न ते साधनमिष्यते

ātmā kevala-siddho'si na te sādhanam iṣyate

The ātman is always perfect and complete (kevala-siddha); it requires no sādhanā whatsoever. In chapter 3 this repetition is not redundant but strategic. Janaka has just heard that there is nothing to do, and the mind immediately looks for a loophole — perhaps some subtle practice, some refined discipline. Aṣṭāvakra answers with the same declaration as a final stroke: the perfection of the self admits no degrees, no exceptions, and no techniques. The recognition itself is the only “practice,” and it is the cessation of all practice.
