The Self is without constructs (nirvikalpa), without form, without guṇas, and Brahman alone. Chapter 9 takes up attraction and aversion, and this verse is its foundation: the Self has no qualities to be increased or decreased. If you are Brahman alone, what could you know, renounce, accept, or reject? The question dissolves the seeker’s posture before any particular desire can arise.
