Kṣetra-Kṣetrajña Yoga · Verse 7

इच्छा द्वेषः सुखं दुःखं सङ्घातश्चेतनाधृतिः | एतत्क्षेत्रं समासेन सविकारमुदाहृतम्

icchā dveṣaḥ sukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ saṅghātaś cetanā dhṛtiḥ | etat kṣetraṃ samāsena sa-vikāram udāhṛtam

Desire, aversion, pleasure, pain, the aggregate, consciousness, firmness — this is declared as the field with its modifications, in summary.

Having listed the ontological constituents, Kṛṣṇa now enumerates the modifications (vikāras) that arise when consciousness interacts with the field.

Icchā (desire) and dveṣa (aversion) are the fundamental dualistic responses. Sukha and duḥkha are their experiential results. These bind the soul to the field.

The saṅghāta (aggregate) refers to the combination of elements that constitutes the body. Cetanā (consciousness) and dhṛti (fortitude) are faculties that can be trained toward liberation.
