Śraddhā-Trayā-Vibhāga Yoga · Verse 20

यत्तु प्रेयोपहितं दानं दीयते चलिसंकल्पः | प्रदुष्यते दानं राजसं चालमफलप्रदम्

yat tu prety-upahitaṃ dānaṃ dīyate cali-saṃkalpaḥ | praduṣyate dānaṃ rājasaṃ cālam aphala-pradam

But the charity that is given with expectation of return, with unstable mind, is said to be rājasika, unstable and of mixed result.

Rājasika charity: pretya-upahitam — given with hope of result (pretya = afterward, or preyas = desire). There is expectation of return — recognition, reward, future benefit.

Cali-saṃkalpaḥ — with unstable/fluctuating intention/mind. It is not firm giving. Result: aphala-pradam — giver of mixed fruit, intermittent. It does not completely purify because attachment remains.
