Karma Yoga · Verse 11
देवान्भावयतानेन ते देवा भावयन्तु वः | परस्परं भावयन्तः श्रेयः परमवाप्स्यथ
devān bhāvayatānena te devā bhāvayantu vaḥ | parasparaṃ bhāvayantaḥ śreyaḥ param avāpsyatha
Nourish the gods with this sacrifice, and may they nourish you. Nourishing each other mutually, you shall attain the supreme good.
The cosmic exchange is made explicit. The devas — cosmic powers, natural elements, vital functions — maintain the universe through sacrificed energy.
Paraspara — mutually — describes reciprocity, not unilateral dependence. Bhāvayantaḥ — nourishing or making flourish — applies in both directions. Śreyaḥ param — supreme good — is the result of actively participating in the cosmic order. To refuse to sacrifice is to refuse to be part of existence itself.
