ब्रह्मा तदेतद्विदित्वा देवा आयन् तस्मात्ते सर्वार्थान् लभन्ते यस्तद् विद्वान् यस्तद् विद्वान् यस्तद् विद्वान्

brahmā tadetadviditvā devā āyan tasmātte sarvārthān labhante yastad vidvān yastad vidvān yastad vidvān

Knowing this, the gods became gods. Therefore they obtain all objectives. He who knows this, he who knows this, he who knows this.

Even the devas (divine beings) attained their state by this vidyā (knowledge). There is no power, however celestial, that does not derive from Brahman. The triple repetition “he who knows this” emphasizes the supreme importance of this understanding. In our yoga practice, this frees us from envy of higher powers or states: everything that seems great is great only by reflecting something of Brahman. Sarvārtha (all purposes) includes not only material but spiritual ones; every true purpose is naturally fulfilled when we know our true nature.
