Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 33

हस्तौ कृत्वा तु वृषणे दृढं बद्ध्वा तु मूर्धनि | गोरक्षासनमेतत्तु सिद्धानां ज्ञानसाधनम् ||

hastau kṛtvā tu vṛṣaṇe dṛḍhaṃ baddhvā tu mūrdhani | gorakṣāsanam etat tu siddhānāṃ jñānasādhanam ||

Completing the description of Gorakṣāsana: the hands rest on the genitals, protecting them, while the head maintains its natural alignment. The expression “firmly bound” suggests a specific finger position.

“Means of knowledge for the perfected ones” (siddhānāṃ jñāna-sādhanam). This posture is not only physical; it is a vehicle of jñāna, direct knowledge of reality.

The protection of the genital region symbolizes the sublimation of sexual energy toward spiritual ends. It is a posture of transformation of vīrya into ojas and tejas.
