Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 15
नासाग्रे च धृतेक्षणः सुषुम्णायां निरोधयेत् | ऊर्ध्वं वायुं प्रचाल्यैतद्विसर्जयति मारुतम् ||
nāsāgre ca dhṛtekṣaṇaḥ suṣumṇāyāṃ nirodhayet | ūrdhvaṃ vāyuṃ pracālyaitad visarjayati mārutam ||
The execution of Mahābandha: kumbhaka with bandhas, gaze at the nose, energy directed toward suṣumnā, and then exhalation.
The blocking in suṣumnā is the goal. The bandhas — mūla, uḍḍiyana, jālandhara — seal the extremities and center of the trunk, creating a pressure chamber where prāṇa can only ascend.
“Moving upward” (ūrdhvaṃ pracālya) describes the intentional direction of energy. It is not automatic; it requires sustained attention.
