Of these, the lower is: Ṛgveda, Yajurveda, Sāmaveda, Atharvāṅgirasa, Itihāsa, Purāṇa, Vidya, Upaniṣads, verses, Sūtras, explanations and exegesis.

The content of the lower knowledge: the entire Vedic textual corpus.

Ṛgvedaḥ — hymns in prose and verse, the most ancient.

Yajurvedaḥ — ritual formulas, prose for sacrifice.

Sāmavedaḥ — melodic chants, the musical dimension.

Atharvāṅgirasaḥ — charms, medicine, domestic practices.

Itihāsaḥ — historical narratives: Mahābhārata, epics.

Purāṇam — texts of cosmology, mythology, genealogy.

Vidyāḥ — sciences: grammar, astronomy, architecture, etc.

Upaniṣadaḥ — here included in the lower, for they are text; realization is the higher.

Ślokāḥ sūtrāṇi — verses and condensed aphorisms.

Anuvyākhyānāni vyākhyānāni — explanations and commentaries.

All this is aparā — preparation, not realization. The yogī studies it but does not stop here.
