Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 14

प्रारब्धम् अपि ज्ञानेन क्षीयते नात्र संशयः

prārabdham api jñānena kṣīyate nātra saṃśayaḥ

Even prārabdha karma dissolves through knowledge; there is no doubt

Prārabdha — karma that has already begun to fructify, that is “already in motion” — is traditionally considered unalterable. Even a jīvanmukta continues experiencing its effects until they exhaust. Vasiṣṭha nuances this: prārabdha continues operating at the physical level, but knowledge strips it of its power to generate suffering. The body continues to fall ill; consciousness no longer identifies with the illness. The fruit falls from the tree, but it no longer rots — it dries.
